Centrifugal Casting
Centrifugal spinning is a precision casting process that uses high rotational speed to distribute molten metal evenly inside a mould.
As the mould spins, the centrifugal force pushes the molten metal outward against the mould walls, allowing impurities and gases to separate toward the centre, resulting in a dense, high-integrity casting with a fine-grained structure. This technique is particularly effective for producing cylindrical or tubular components such as pipes, sleeves and rings.
Centrifugal gives a uniform structure, strength, and resistance to pressure or corrosion in critical application. As the metal solidifies from the outside in, centrifugal casting delivers superior mechanical properties and minimal defects compared to traditional static casting methods.
Vertical and horizontal casting are two key variations of the centrifugal casting process, each optimised for different component shapes and performance requirements. In vertical casting, molten metal is poured into a vertically oriented, spinning mould, allowing gravity and centrifugal force to work together to produce components such as rings, discs, and short cylinders with exceptional structural integrity and minimal defects. In contrast, horizontal casting involves a mould rotating along its horizontal axis, ideal for producing longer tubular components like pipes, sleeves, and tubes with uniform wall thickness and a fine-grained, dense structure.
Both methods deliver high-quality castings with superior mechanical properties, reduced porosity, and excellent dimensional accuracy. Furthermore making them essential techniques for industries requiring strength, reliability, and precision.
Static Casting
Static casting is a traditional casting method where molten metal is poured into a stationary mould and allowed to solidify under the influence of gravity alone. This process is highly versatile and suitable for producing complex shapes and large, heavy components that may not be practical to manufacture using centrifugal techniques.
Static sand casting allows for a wide range of alloy compositions and design flexibility, making it ideal for intricate parts such as pump bodies, valve housings, and fittings. With precise mould design, controlled pouring, and advanced solidification techniques, static casting can achieve excellent dimensional accuracy, consistent quality, and reliable mechanical performance for demanding industrial applications.
